Rob is a Certified Professional Business Advisor. Rob is known professionally as a successful, results oriented SME advisor and operates in both New Zealand and Australia. Rob is currently an active Angel Investor and specialises in using the Business Success Programme toolkit to reduce execution risk in early stage and high growth start-ups.
Rob’s seven-year SME and Early-Stage business performance focus is backed up by 35 years of corporate business transformation experience in British Columbia and New Zealand. Rob’s corporate roles were across a wide range of Industries – forestry operations, biotechnology, aquaculture, niche stationery and dairy animal feed. The roles also offered broad B2B market experience spanning Canada, USA, UK, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand and Australia.
Rob has demonstrated the value of getting clarity on organisational issues/opportunities, creating personal and organisational focus and then delivering results. Rob’s philosophy is that it is critical to develop a clear transformation plan and support the improvement programme with a belief that “you cannot manage what you cannot measure”. With good measures and accountability, it becomes joyously obvious when the team is moving towards a goal or painfully obvious when meeting resistance or barriers. Working through the process is a great development process for the client Teams and delivers real wealth creation for the Owners. Rob has a passion for learning. He is a student of effective leadership and understanding what makes businesses tick. As a General Manager or Business Owner, one lives and breathes the issues and opportunities of a single business. As a Business Success Advisor, Rob gets excited about the challenge of leveraging his experience and applying the Business Success Programme to the “pointy end” of a variety of client businesses at one time in his portfolio of projects.
As recognition of the impact Rob is having both with clients and advisors, Rob was awarded the 2019 Maus Advisor of the year.
Rob and wife Ann have been together over 45 years and have raised four wonderful children. Nana and Pa Dorey have eight grandchildren under the age of seven and with that comes more family excitement. Rob is active in triathlon – progressing from literally learning to swim to taking up the sport to represent New Zealand at the World Age Group Championships in Chicago USA in 2015.
